Y1-Y2 Numeracy Activity

These photographs show pupils developing their Maths and Numeracy skills through visual supports, practical activities and continuous practice. Pupils developed greater confidence in understanding concepts and applying them to solve problems.

What I contributed

Provided targeted 1:1 and small-group Maths support. Used visual and practical resources to reinforce concepts. Modelled problem-solving strategies and encouraged independent thinking. Provided regular practice and positive reinforcement. Monitored progress with the class teacher.

Learning objective

To develop pupils' understanding of number concepts and mathematical reasoning, enabling them to use visual and practical strategies to solve problems with increasing confidence and independence.

Reflection

This experience reinforced the importance of visual support, repetition and encouragement in Maths. With consistent guidance, pupils were able to grasp concepts, build confidence and apply their learning more independently.

Year 2 Literacy — Writing Progress

These samples show a clear progression in the child's writing skills from the beginning to the end of the year. The early piece shows emerging understanding of sentence structure and letter formation, while the later piece demonstrates improved confidence, clearer handwriting and the ability to organise ideas with a simple drawing and sentence.

What I contributed

Provided targeted phonics and writing support through small group and 1:1 intervention. Used visual aids, sentence starters and modelling to build confidence and independence. Encouraged consistent practice and positive reinforcement. Worked closely with the classroom teacher to track progress and set achievable next steps.

Learning objective

To develop independent writing skills, letter formation and the ability to communicate ideas in sentences.

Reflection

Seeing this progress reminded me how important patience, encouragement and the right strategies are in building a child's confidence. It reinforced my belief that every child can grow when they feel supported, valued and given the right opportunities to succeed.

Classroom Displays

Grandad's Island Door Displays

A door display for the English text “Grandad's Island”, bringing the story's island setting to life with handmade foliage, flowers and key characters.

What I contributed

Designed and created the display alongside the class teacher.

To bring the story setting to life and encourage children to engage with the text.

Reflection

The door display helped create a welcoming, engaging classroom environment and encouraged a sense of belonging among the children.

Phonics Intervention Resources

Phonics resources I made to support small-group interventions and Read Write Inc. lessons, including picture cards and 'green words' strips to help children practise reading sounds and words with increasing confidence.

What I contributed

Printed and organised the resources to match the sounds and words the children were learning. Used picture cards and green words strips to support blending and decoding. Adapted the materials for small-group interventions and Read Write Inc. lessons.

Learning objective

To support children's phonics development and reading fluency through visual, practical resources matched to their stage of learning.

Reflection

Making my own resources helped me respond to the children's specific needs and reinforce what they were learning in lessons. Having familiar, visual materials gave children confidence to practise and apply their growing phonics knowledge.
